La visione notturna è una tecnologia a cui abbiamo da tempo fatto l'abitudine, ma associamo ad essa immagini monocromatiche , in gran parte dei casi la prima rappresentazione che viene in mente è quella classica in toni di verde. La divisione Nanosystem Research del National Instistute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology giapponese è però al lavoro su una tecnologia che promette in a short time to change this idea.
Diginfo TV published a video on the development of a new camera that can return color images even in darkness. The technique takes advantage of highly sensitive infrared sensors , as is already the night vision, but adds algorithmic analysis of the wavelengths reflected when the objects are affected by infrared light and based on this analysis reconstructs colors. The researchers were able to reproduce successfully in this way red, blue and green objects reconstructed images more faithful to reality than those in green and black.
La camera è in grado di riprendere fotografie, ma anche video e i suoi campi d'utilizzo potranno essere vari: dalle riprese di sicurezza all'uso sulle automobili. Al momento il sistema è ancora da affinare, ma i ricercatori puntano a presentare un prodotto commerciale entro la fine dell'anno, in grado di riprodurre anche al buio correttamente il colore degli oggetti. Per arrivare sul mercato la camera dovrà riuscire ad essere più piccola, meno costosa e in grado di operare per lunghi periodi di tempo.
